A few years back nobody would have anticipated that a virus called COVID-19 would disrupt our daily routines in the way that it has today. Most companies have embraced remote-working for some of their staff, therefore making the term “working from home” popular in recent times.
COVID-19 has disrupted our normal livelihood, a day that previously involved a lot of movement such as walking around a lot, shopping, outings with family and friends may have reduced due to the restrictions in place. As a result, some people may have adopted a more sedentary lifestyle that involves sitting for long periods of time watching television, on social media in their phones or sitting at their computers for a much longer period than usual. We have all been somehow affected by COVID-19, whether or not you have tested positive, the virus has obviously had an impact on your day-to-day life, this could have a negative effect on your overall health and mental wellbeing.
It is important to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle while limiting exposure to COVID-19. So what are some of the things that one should do?
- Stay active
Gyms may be closed or have restrictions to the number of people who can be there at a go, however, this should not discourage you to not exercise. There are many alternatives available, aerobics can be done at home or in parks. Go for walks or jog outside in areas that are not crowded. Take the stairs, do some push-ups, jumping-jacks and many other exercises offered online by trainers to stay fit.
- Get adequate sleep
Good sleep is essential for the good health and optimum performance of an individual. Studies have revealed that one requires at least seven or more hours of sleep in a day. Therefore, for your overall health, you should strive to get some good sleep.
- Maintain your healthcare
If you have any medical condition, make sure you are taking your medications as directed by your physician. If you have any concerns, be sure to contact your doctor or healthcare provider. Chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and many others should be controlled by taking your medications as prescribed. Alert your healthcare provider as soon as you observe anything out of the ordinary with your health.
- Manage stress and anxiety
Manage your stress levels and anxiety, keep your mental health in check by engaging in exercise, meditation, hobbies, and sharing moments with family and friends. Despite the new precautions and guidelines to combat COVID-19, we must find ways to positively cope with stress and anxiety caused by all these imposed precautions. Try and develop new or even better routines such as exercise to help you cope in this unprecedented era.
- Maintain contact
As much as some of the COVID-19 precautions involve quarantine and isolation, keep talking to your loved ones and friends, check on each other frequently, utilize social media and other apps to stay in touch with friends and family. We may have taken keeping in touch with our loved ones lightly initially, but now is the time to ensure that you maintain a connection with friends and family.
